The questionnaires

I'm gonna work on getting the questionnaire's done today. I've put them off for most of the week, so i need to get them done in time for sunday. I am going to aim to produce about 15 questionnaires and simply give them to the people who seem to fit the criteria. I will need to develop a tactful way asking people their age lol...

I need to add in an 'any other comments section' at the end of the questionnaires.

Deciding on the methods

Now that i have all the information that i need to create the DVD itself, I now simply need a bit of market research on what will make the DVD usable and effective to fulfil its purpose. In order to do this I will need a more specific audience than the one used in the original planning and research (young people from town) and that is people within the church.

Simon says that the average church member's age is 28 for this reason i will aim the research at people within a 10 year spectrum of that age bracket (ie 5 years younger and 5 years older). Whereas before I used the short interview technique to capture the information from the interviewee, the problem was that they could easily have been giving me the answer i wanted to hear just to get on with whatever they were doing. So this time i will use questionnaires to get the information that i need from the auidence that will be watching the DVD.

It is also worth noting that for the eventual DVD menu, I have decided not to even mention the other departments and simply have the two that i will produce videos for (and then go back and edit them further after this project has been handed in).

I want to get the questionnaire's out on this sunday as there will be a lot of people there coz it's so close to Christmas (yay!) and therefore a larger potential audience for information.

Post Meeting

Well I just had the meeting with Simon Lewis. Admittedly it wasn't a very long meeting but we came to a few conclusions that i needed to note down here before i forget. I will write this up in the examiners report shortly...

He has given me a further 2 months to work on the project after I have handed it in, to ensure that I can focus the university side of the project (which I was very grateful for....)

He said that making a few videos in the short-term would be fine. He also explained the audiences more clearly. He showed me that although the DVD can be developed further at a later date the most important demographic is to the new members of the church. This is the prime audience that he wanted the DVD to reach.

I now need to develop a new reasearch plan to find out what would appeal to them to make the best possible DVD.

It's been a while

I haven't gotten around to writing in there for a while... but i have put together a few storyboards and organised a meeting with Simon Lewis. I hope that he doesn't mind the whole cutting the videos back for now thing...

This said, i probably should have waited for the meeting before even working on the storyboards since they will need to reflect the audience that they are going to be aimed at. Equally it could be a while before I get to film or edit since I need to go back to getting research from whichever audience I will be aiming at.

This means I will need to set out a new basic schedule instead of the last one that was documented in the Planning and research document. The meeting with Simon is on Friday this week (the 14th) at 10am.

The Footage I Have

I had a quick look through everything that I have (footage wise) and I came to the conclusion of which departments that I will be using to produce the videos for the project.

I have enough footage (given to me) for the 'youth group'.
And I have filmed enough of the 'meet to eat' club (over 50's club).
And as mentioned in another blog (somewhere...) the last video will be the general shots of the city.

I have put all the clips into a folder on my laptop hard drive in a folder called 'Community Video'.

:)

Gathering The footage

Since I am supposed to have already created storyboards for the project I thought I should pull together all of the footage that I have to begin to get an idea for the three videos that I am planning on making.

I am going to plan out the storyboards tomorrow once I have seen what footage I actually have (and more importantly which bits I need...)...

After The Viva

We just had the Viva (well - yesterday...). It went really well, there were a few things that came out of it that I need to develop.

Firstly, the audience. It is definitely true that my project isn't being created for a specific audience - simply because there is a lot of different audience's that will be using the DVD. For this reason, I will go back and liaise with Simon Lewis (The CityCoast Church administrator) and find out if I can do the DVD with a specific audience in mind (if this isn't possible, I can easily just make the project for a specific audience and then develop the DVD further for Simon after the project has completed and handed in).

Secondly, along similar lines, I am creating a large number of videos all showing and demonstrating similar skills and abibiltes. So I will simply develop only a few videos (3) each using different skills.
1) And Intro video (demonstrating speeded up film and overlays)
2) A video made from my footage
3) A video made from other footage given to me by the church
If i get more time, I can do other videos, but at the very least I need to aim to getting these done to ensure that there is at least a respectable and markable project by the deadline
(on the schedule I hadn't really accommodated for holidays and other assignments)

From here I need to update the Report to Examiners next, to illustrate these developments.
